Dochula pass, Thimphu
Dochula Pass is a scenic mountain pass located on the road from Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan, to Punakha, the former capital. Dochula Pass is situated at an elevation of approximately 3,100 meters (10,200 feet) above sea level in the Himalayan mountain range. It is located about 30 kilometers northeast of Thimphu and approximately 20 kilometers west of Punakha. The pass is adorned with a cluster of 108 chortens (stupas) known as the Druk Wangyal Chortens, which were built in 2005 to commemorate Bhutanese soldiers who were killed in battle. These chortens, with their white walls and golden spires, are a significant cultural and religious symbol in Bhutan.
